Cotton is a natural plant fibre grown in a cotton boll as a seed fiber. India produces 22% of the world’s cotton and is among the largest cotton producers. On the other hand, polyester is a synthetic fibre. Synthetic refers to synthesis, a chemical reaction. Polyester is an artificially made material with petroleum-based substances. It is a type of plastic that is melted and put through a spinneret to make strings or filaments. Who says polyester shirts are better? I’ve heard fashion gurus say that polyester clothing should be avoided because it tends to look inexpensive. Personally, I look for rayon and cotton blends instead.
